第十二届世界环境教育大会于2024年1月29日至2月2日在阿布扎比召开,主题是“连接人们,创造明天”(“Connecting People, Creating Tomorrow.”),世界环境教育大会(WEEC)是一个致力于环境和可持续发展教育的国际大会。大会旨在探讨如何通过环境教育应对气候变化、污染、生物多样性丧失等全球环境挑战,以及如何鼓励跨国界、跨文化和跨世代的协作。会议不仅限于传统的学术和实践交流,也鼓励采取创新形式,如艺术表演和互动活动,以丰富教育内容和参与体验。

As we close the first day of the 12th World Environmental Education Congress (WEEC2024), we reflect on a day replete with inspiring discussions, transformative insights and the collective passion of environmental educators from around the globe.


Today at WEEC2024, we embarked on a journey of exploration and discovery, delving into critical environmental issues and innovative educational strategies. The energy and enthusiasm that filled the halls of the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) were palpable, setting a vibrant tone for the days ahead.


Opening Ceremony Highlights








The WEEC2024 Opening Ceremony - a truly empowering journey, commenced with a captivating performance, igniting the spirit within us to become advocates and change-makers.



HE Shaikha Al Dhaheri, Secretary General, Environment Agency - Abu Dhabi welcomed delegates at the WEEC2024 Opening Ceremony along with Mario Salomone, Secretary-General, WEEC Secretariat, Elizabeth Wathuti, Kenyan Youth Activist, Founder & Executive Director, Green Generation Initiative.


Plenary 1: Triple Planetary Crisis: Aligning EE and ESD








HH Sheikha Shamma bint Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, President & CEO, UAE Independent Climate Change Accelerators, gave a Keynote Address, inspiring attendees with her dedication and leadership in environmental advocacy.



HE Razan Khalifa Al Mubarak, President of IUCN and Managing Director of Environment Agency Abu Dhabi paved the way for WEEC2024's enlightening journey. Starting with 'The Challenges' theme in the first Plenary, 'Triple Planetary Crisis: Aligning Environmental Education (EE) and Education for Sustainable Development (ESD),' underscored the crucial role of EE and ESD in addressing global challenges. 



The continuation of the first Plenary, addressing the 'Triple Planetary Crisis: Aligning Environmental Education (EE) and Education for Sustainable Development (ESD)', took centre stage, charting the course for governments, institutions, and networks to prioritise EE and ESD. The inspiring voices of HE Amna Al Dahak Al Shamsi, HE Mamo Boru Mamo, Lorenzo Fioramonti and Ginger Potter, guided by moderator Abdul Majed Haddad, emphasised the urgency for leaders to amplify EE and ESD through systemic interventions.


Plenary 2: Water, Food, and Energy Nexus: Breaking silos in EE and ESD








Crucial discussions at WEEC2024 Plenaries with visionary leaders Najib Saab, Barry D. Solomon, Kavita Rai, and Rahmah Elfithri, led by moderator Heila Lotz-Sisitka. As we confronted the Triple Planetary Crisis, water and sanitation, energy, food, biodiversity and greening, pollution, health and wellbeing, waste management, and climate change continued to be the favored themes for environmental education systems across the world.
